LIGHTS and SOFT CULT @ SAINT ANDREW’S HALL

LIGHTS is a world-renowned Canadian electronic artist known for her platinum-shelf synth-pop that makes emo kids dance like they’re at the Black Parade album release party. It’s pretty rad to witness. She has been ripping her own music straight from her mystic creativity for as long as I can remember social media being a thing. I found her during an electronic binge of female producers near the end of Myspace's days.

ESCALATION OF FORCE @ PARTS and LABOR

Shows like this are pretty synonymous with Downriver tbh. I cannot remember a hardcore benefit show I went to down there where a fight didn’t break out. This was no different, a real “welcome home” moment for me. Rest in Peace Jason.

Hardcore heavyweight dominators Sunami are winding down their co-headlining tour with Scowl and made a late tour stop at Detroit's Majestic complex. Originally slated for the Majestic Theatre, the show was moved last minute to the Magic Stick. The room was packed to the gills. Smart move to move from a barrier with security catching crowd surfers to a no barricade show with stage diving.

Poison The Well, Glassjaw, and Better Lovers @ Royal Oak Music Theatre

Poison The Well made their triumphant return to the Detroit area this past spring. I have zero idea when the last time they were here was, but I do remember seeing them every few months in the early 2000s. From The Shelter, Saint Andrews, Alvins, and Magic Stick. Seemed like they were kinda always here. Which is rad because that time in Detroit, a lot of bands didn’t want to come here.

This was a fun night. 5 bands. Show over before 10 pm. Stoned on the couch in Westland by 11. Hey, well, at least no one broke the water main. Kinda weird to still have the same energy after doing that though right? Anyway, all the bands ripped. Stoked for what's coming down the pipe.
